Field Work Frustrations

So, again, its been forever since I posted. Not that it really matters, since no one reads this anyway. In any case, today was just crap. The field season has already begun, and I only had 5 good sites to begin with, and one of those I ended up scratching because it was wasn't possible to get in there and do what I have to do -- too shallow for a canoe, but you sink up to your belly button in muck if you try to wade in. Not exactly the safest situation. So then its down to 4 sites, which really isn't great from a scientific standpoint. So we went out today to try to find more sights. We got nothing. NOTHING. We looked at at least 6 new "looks good on the map" sites. Damn maps. And damn Michigan. Some of those lakes might have been perfect, but I'll never know because there are no public access point anywhere. Its quite frustring. I thought we should just start running across people's lawns with the canoe, but for some reason, Dave didn't think that would be a good idea, especially with the Univerity's logo all over the truck. *Shrugs* So basically we drove all over the place and got rained on today for absoluetly nothing. Finding sites was supposed to be the least of my problems. Grr. This science stuff is hard. And Michigan can kiss my ass. Stingy with lakes....whoever heard of such a thing. Its not like they don't have enough of them. Arrrg....
Anyway, there are still a couple more lakes to check out tomorrow, but I'm certainly not holding my breath. After those, i pretty much just have to work with what I have. I'm really starting to run out of time. Is it too late to change my thesis????
We did see a tiny baby raccon today though. It was incredibly cute. Unfortunatly, i'm not exactly sure it was okay considering it was too young to be out by itself, espeically in the middle of the day. If I was still living at home, I would have brought him home in a heart beat, but living in my apartment, I can't take that risk, especially with Radar. I'm not willing to take the risk of getting him sick. Still, it was really hard to drive away from that tiny little masked face. It was just kitten sized. Absolutely adorable. I'm hoping he just strayed off and momma found him eventually. At least, thats what i'm going to tell myself.
As for other news....I don't even know. Everything lately has mostly been field work and field related work. Really, its nothing you want to hear about. A couple weeks ago, memorial day I guess it was, Steven and I ventured down to Ohiopyle State Park and messed around there all day. It was a fun time, and I got a cool new t-shirt.
Joey and I went to see X-men III. I really enjoyed it, however it wasn't really as good as I thought it could have been. But still, Wolverine is awesome, and there were a lot of shockers. Steven and I saw 3 movies: Over the Hedge -- cute, but again, not as good as I thought it would be; The DaVince Code -- I thought it was great, however I haven't read the book; and Posiden -- which I also thought was really good (much better than the original).
Anyway, thats the news. I'll try my best to keep you updated thoughout this crazy field season.
By the way.....if anyone wants to do anything fun like to go Cedar Point or Put in Bay or go to a Mudhun's game, let me know.
